Fall Family Fun: 6 Fall "Must Do" Events

1. Heritage Day

Date: Saturday, September 12th

Time: 9:30am – 4:00pm

Venue: Southampton Agriculture and Forestry Museum (26135 Heritage Lane Courtland, VA 23837)

Admission: $5.00 Adults/$2 Children

Come visit the Southampton Agriculture and Forestry Museum to see Heritage Crafters making butter, hominy, molasses, cracklin’s, soap and baskets. Watch an 1880s printing press, 1920s sawmill and a corn gristmill in action. Story-telling will take place in an old 1-room school house. Watch blacksmithing and pottery-making demonstrations. Visit the petting zoo and take a peek at miniature horses as well as antique cars, tractors and small engines, which will all be on display. Live music will be provided by Bluegrass by Shiloh Grass at 11:30am, 12:45pm and 3:00pm. Join us for a family fun hayride or shop for hand made arts & crafts. Grab lunch on site and enjoy the BBQ/Hot dogs/baked goods/drinks that will be available for sale. Rebecca Vaughan House will be open with a display of local historical items. This will be a fun day for everyone! All activities except food included in admission price.

2. Franklin Cruise In

Date: Saturday, September 12th

Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Venue: Historic Downtown Franklin (107 South Main Street Franklin, VA 23851)

We welcome you to “Cruise In” for the Franklin Cruise In Finale! Open to Antique Cars and Trucks, Street Rods, and Custom Bikes. We have vehicles from as far away as Chesterfield, VA to the north, Valentines, VA to the west, Virginia Beach to the east and Ahoskie, NC to the south; Cruise In is a fun, family friendly event and welcomes children of all ages. Monster Energy Drinks can be found handing out FREE samples of their products along side their monster truck. Admission is free and open to all!

3. Franklin Fall Festival

Date: Friday, October 2nd and Saturday, October 3rd

Time: Friday 6:00pm – 11:00pm and Saturday 10:00am – 4:00pm

Venue: Barrett’s Landing (East Barrett Street Franklin, VA 23851) and (120 South Main Street Franklin, VA 23851)

Admission: Friday: $5.00 (Kids under 6 years of age FREE) and Saturday: FREE

Join us Friday night for a block party at Barrett’s Boat Landing with live music and fireworks to kick off the event or swing by from 10am-4pm Saturday to take part in the street festival. Ten blocks of Downtown Franklin’s Historic District will be closed off to make room for ALL the festivities of this year’s Franklin Fall Festival event. Festivities include: Arts & Crafts Booths, Food Vendors, Commercial Exhibits, Educational Exhibits, a Classic Car Show plus loads of family entertainment!  We invite you to come join us for a wonderful weekend event and while you are here be sure to explore our Historic Downtown shops and restaurants.

4. Boykins Pumpkin Fest

Date: Saturday, October 17th

Time: All Day

Venue: Main Street Boykins

Boykins is a small town with a big festival. Food (BBQ, hot dogs and more), music (bands, DJs, local talent), vendors (arts and crafts), games, rides and inflatables help to make this Boykins’ biggest event of the year! Come check out the car, truck, bike and tractor shows. Enjoy a hayride or pony ride and see old world crafts. Enter and play to win the BINGO JACKPOT or the local talent show! Children are invited to ride the train and enjoy the petting zoo. Come join us for this fun, family friendly event!

5. Blackwater Outfitters/Nottoway River Guides (Kayak Tours)
